As a follower of Jesus, I’ve committed myself to the resurrected Lord who is my Savior.

Not only do I trust Him with my eternal safety and bliss, but I’ve committed to obey Him and follow Him in all things in my life.

So let’s talk about some of the things Jesus prohibited: lying, cheating, stealing, gossip, back-biting, betrayal.  And now one of the big juicy ones – not having sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman.  He said this is wrong.  And because He said it is wrong, it’s wrong.

It’s wrong is because it hurts, destroys, separates, divides and creates disease, death, and mayhem. We see it every day and yet we just seem ignorant to it.  There never come voices that cry out that it’s wrong.  It’s morally wrong because of the damage it does.

Sex is between a man and a woman inside of marriage: in any other context, between any other groupings of people, sex is corrosive and destructive.  That’s enough reason to leave it alone. But the very best reason why it’s wrong is because Jesus said so. And because He said so, that should end the conversation for those of us who are Christians.

We don’t need any other prohibition.  We don’t even have the right to expect an explanation, though we get more than we need, obviously.  I’ve found as I mature in my faith, the very best reason to do something is because God said “do it.” I may not understand it, like it, or even agree with it.  But since He’s the boss and He says, “do it,”  I do it.  If He says not to do something, even though it may feel good and right and be the very thing all the cool people are doing, I don’t do it.  It’s wrong.  Because the One that I worship, love and adore says it’s wrong.  And I trust His motive.

You may not be able to understand God’s methods, or even His morality from time to time.  But as a follower of Jesus, you need never mistrust His motives. His love means that He has our best always, even when it’s hard to see.
