You’ve heard it said that attitude is everything. Well, it is almost everything, and the almost makes all the difference. What is the almost that’s missing, even if you have a great attitude? It’s competency. You must be competent. Happy, excited, motivated, smiling people who really suck at what they do, still fail. It’s not one or the other. Why do we always seek that – this or that? Why not use the genius of both/and? Great attitude and high levels of competence over time equal extreme success.
Those of us who lead would do well to keep that in mind. It’s not just the smile; it’s the skill.
